You either lightning bolt the ball carrier if you think you can swoop in and steal the ball away, or drop a fireball on the ball carrier if you can catch 3-4 other guys with it.
A wizard at its best will prevent a score from your opponent and give a score to you - a potential 2 point swing that could win a game outright. This is the inducement that the team with the higher TV might pay 150k out of pocket just to buy in a finals match. Wizard - Best 150k you can spend period.
